Sketchbooks
Sketchbooks are an important tool to an artist. Individual artist use them in a variety of ways depending on their personal preferences or needs. Too often we see these well-crafted books by experienced artists where every page is an incredible piece of art. They have spent 1000s of hour getting to a point where that is possible. That is just one type of sketchbook and not one that I care about in this class.
Because of the pandemic every art student at UHS has been given a sketchbook this year. This will give you paper to use at home for sketchbook homework. Because time is limited this year you will be expected to keep the sketchbook throughout the semester. The majority of homework will be done in the sketchbooks. Some class work as well.
So sketchbooks will be used for assignments, but my hope is that sketchbook will be used for much more. Sketchbooks are a great place to play. Some would argue that without play there is no creativity and I want you all to be creative so play! Doodle, experiment, try something out. No one is judging what you do in your sketchbook outside of the assignment pages. Even then there is often a lot of leeway.
Sketchbooks are journals. You can easily read elsewhere about the importance and the therapeutic applications to journaling. Both drawing and with words. This is your sketchbook. If you want to use it for that then go for it. I just need to see the assignment pages.
DO NOT BE AFRAID TO MAKE MISTAKES!!!
